Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy can be used to treat many types of cancer. Cytotoxic drugs inhibit cell division and in this way cause cancer cells to die. In many cases thus tumorous or metastatic growth can be significantly reduced – the tumor mass may even shrink. In recent years, chemo treatment possibilities have considerably improved. Nowadays in almost all cases chemotherapy can be administered on an outpatient basis. This has become possible through the enormous progress in supportive therapy. Today the once so feared side effects like nausea, vomiting, risk of infection, etc. are mostly avoidable. Chemotherapeutic medicines can be administered in form of tablets, injections or as continuous infusions via small portable pump systems, which can be used at home.
